Pittsburgh – Surveillance camera serves as the eyes and ears of authorities. So people in the street be wary as your movement is being recorded!

Early Sunday at around 1:00 o’clock, a motorist thought was not seen he could get away after hitting a parked car on Munhall’s Main Street and started moving out..

He was not aware of being watched as a camera that was one of 12 installed on Main Street recorded all. In Munhall, there is a total of 45 cameras.

Chris Morrow from West Mifflin could not believe that a total of 45 cameras are installed in Munhall that is not even considered a bad area.

Munhall Acting Police Chief Joe Cibula said that through their investigation and posting made on FB Munhall Crime Watch, the video was seen by a resident of Munhall who believed that he was in the place of the parked car that was hit.

Investigators proceeded to the scene, examined the wrecked car and matched it with pieces left behind at the scene.

Cibula said that the driver admitted to have hit the parked car; however, his identity has not been made public.

Josie Frankel who works in Munhall thinks that this was an innovative idea to catch wrong-doers.

So the next time motorists think they can get away with something, think twice, especially if you are again in Munhall.

Stephen A. Zappala Jr. who is Allegheny County District Attorney estimated that business surveillance cameras cover from 45 percent to 50 percent of Downtown.

Zappala said that this time technology is harnessed to worked for the benefit of the public especially on the road.

A driver dragged a woman along 5th Avenue and then fled but detectives watched a video of the incident captured by Highmark surveillance cameras. Keonna Whetsell was caught by the video walking along the 5th Avenue’s crosswalk that was at the vicinity of Liberty Ave. Suddenly a car passed her so closely that Whetsell waved her umbrella right at the windshield to get the attention of the driver. The driver backed up as Whetsell started talking to her through the window for passenger with part of her body inside.

Kathy Snell, age 29 and resident of Mt. Lebanon must have been irritated by what Whetsell said that she drove away, dragging Whetsell down 5th Avenue.

Snell was charged with: (1) driving carelessly; (2) creating an accident involving injury; and (3) recklessly driving with endangering another person. These are all proven in the camera.

Surveillance cameras are like the eyes of detectives. William Ringo reported to the police that he was punched by a man with a group for no reason as he was walking along Smallman Street. Through the surveillance video, police received tips identifying the assailant and the four people who were there. Based on criminal complaint, Carlos Aguilar, age 21 and resident of Bristol, near Philadelphia, with charged with aggravated assault.

Flemm said that the cameras are great tool for criminal fighters so the first thing police do after a crime is committed, especially in traffic violations, is to see where the cameras are located.
