A driver, who survived a two-vehicle wreck that caused six people’s death, including her own daughter and nephew, was charged with homicide. These charges have been filed against the driver of the accident on R- 219 in Hamlin Township during the weekend of Labor Day.

Kane-based state police identified Kathleen Susan Douglas, age 37, and resident of Tionesta Ave. as the driver charged with the following: (1)  six counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI; (2) one count each of involuntary manslaughter & aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence; that are  all second-degree felonies; (3) six counts of homicide by vehicle, and (4) one count of aggravated assault by vehicle; that are all third-degree felonies; (5) five counts of involuntary manslaughter, (6) two counts of endangering the welfare of children ; and (7) one count of DUI, that are all first-degree misdemeanors; and (8) seven counts of recklessly endangering another person, that are all second-degree misdemeanors.

Police said that aside from these charges that Douglas is facing; she has summary charges of (1) driving on the incorrect side of the road; (2) failing to drive on roadways lane for traffic; and (3) two counts of failing to use restraint systems. Douglas’ arraignment on the charges has not yet been set.

Killed in the wreck were: (1) Olivia Douglas, age 12 , resident  of  Eldred, her daughter; (2) Jarrett Costanzo, age  6, resident of Kane, her nephew; (3) Gary Beimel, age 62; (4) David Cuneo, age 54, (5) Elaine Beimel, age 55; and (6) Florence Donachy, age 81, all residing in St. Mary.

All six passengers were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash that happened in McKean County.

According to police report, on the 31st of August, a Jeep operated by Kathleen Douglas traveling along U.S. R- 219 hit a car driven by Gary Beimel in a head-on collision near its intersection with Meade Run Road.

Kathleen Douglas and her 10-year-old son sustained serious injuries. Meanwhile, two of her passengers, her daughter Olivia and nephew Jarrett were killed. Beimel, the driver of the other vehicle and all three of his passengers were killed as well.

Douglas blood contained prescription medicine of certain drug so she was filed charges of DUI. Aside from a prescription found in Douglas car after the crash, toxicology tests on her blood showed that levels of Clonazepam in her system were many times more than the prescribed dosage.

The Jeep veered toward the center line as the two vehicles collided head-on. The Jeep turned over clockwise and rested off the road; while the car rested at the point of impact.

The day before the crash, Douglas picked up a prescription for herself of .5 milligram Clonazepam pills, 60 count.

Last Friday, DA Ray Learn reported that Kathleen Douglas is still under medication and he was not informed of the date of arraigned.
