Mason Ansell, are 22, resident of Rockwood and Jennifer Jury, age 26, resident of Somerset were critically injured after an accident that took place Sunday at about 1:20 o’clock in the morning along state R- 281in then State of Pennsylvania.

Police said that Ansell was behind the wheel in 2004 Dodge 2500 and was going south when he was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Nearly 1/3 of all car accidents have speeding as the main factor. The faster the speed of the car, the lesser time the driver is able to react. The other factor is that there is an increase in forces on the human body during a collision at high speed. Due to this phenomenon, personal injuries become worse in car accidents that resulted from high speeds.

In the year1999, records showed that speeding was a 30% contributing factor in all fatal crashes that lost more than 12,628 lives. Society’s economic cost of speeding-related crashes had been estimated by the NHTSA to be more than the sum of $28 billion per year.  Speeding is classified as a voluntary and calculated behavior and most drivers are aware of the risk but most of them prefer to ignore the danger.  It is known that at least 90% of drivers with license are involved in speeding at some period in their career in driving, and around 75% admitted that they are regularly committing the same kind of offenses.

Most people are agreeable to the fact that running at100 mph is foolishly dangerous & reckless and will very likely culminate to a disastrous car accident.  One problem though is that exceeding the speed limit by only 5 mph in the wrong place is also just as dangerous. This is the reason why traffic engineers, as well as officers of the federal, state and local governments must have to determine the maximum speeds allowable for safe travel on the nation’s roadways.
