Uniontown – A police pursuit prompted a long period of standoff on Friday in Fayette County following one person arrested and another was dead after the firing of shots.

One man who kept himself concealed the whole day inside a home in Center Avenue in N. Union Township was discovered dead later that Friday night. It seemed that he fired a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Operator Donald Brown was able to get inside the place at around noon after his truck he crashed into a nearby house.

The crash resulted after a police chase where shots fired from the truck were targeted to a marked state police cruiser.

The truck was the object of police chase when a theft was reported in the state game land property in Ohiopyle.

One woman identified as Jessica Phillips was inside the truck accompanying Brown but she surrendered to the police. She in now facing serious charges that included attempted homicide. Meanwhile, Phillips is confined in jail with one million dollars bond.

An employee at the nearby auto glass store, identified as Corey Swetz saw the whole episode that happened on the extension of North Gallatin St. in Uniontown.

Swetz, a witness, said that she saw police ordering everybody to get out of the way. The police were in action: they wore their bulletproof vests, and pulled out shotguns and AR-15s and other stuff for defense.

The chase started at around noon at the Ohiopyle with the police going after the truck. State police issued the be-on-the-lookout alert was issued and continued the pursuit on Bute Road.

Meanwhile, the back window of the truck was open and the occupant inside the truck started firing at the troopers. Due to the speed, the truck driver was unable to negotiate a curve.

Swetz said that the police was using barricade-type things when the speeding truck got inside a house.

After the truck crashed into a house, the male and female occupants rushed out of the vehicle and were seen running into another house where they barricaded themselves inside.

A clerk at the nearby Dollar General, Katie Nairn said that troopers came in and told all customers to leave.

Nairn who was newly employed in the store said that the incident was so nerve-It was very nerve-wrecking. They just locked down the store and continued working on the stock but carefully stayed out of the window.

At first, the police feared that an elderly woman was in the house with the couple who might be made a hostage; but to their relief, the woman was safe with a neighbor.

A man and woman were arrested. Although the police picked up the right woman suspect but in the confusion, they picked up the wrong man who was later set free. The real companion of the woman hid inside the house for the whole time and was later discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigation of the case continued.
