Sheakleyville, Pa. — At least three people died following two-vehicle head-on crash in Mercer County last Friday evening. Due to the wreck, authorities closed part of I- 79 along the area.

The site of the accident was just before 5:45 o’clock in the afternoon along Interstate -79 in the Township of Deer Creek.

According to the report of state police, operator Robert Neubert II, age 62 and resident of Amherst, N.Y., was driving along the southbound lanes when for unknown reasons; he lost control of his Dodge 2012 Challenger. His car went crossed over the center line and was running at the northbound side of the road opposite the direction of oncoming vehicles.

Being in the wrong lane, Neubert crashed his vehicle head-onto a 2012 Chevrolet 2013 Cruze that was driven by Susan Thomas, age 54 and resident of Sewickley.

State police stated that due to the violent impact of the crash, the Chevrolet of Thomas vaulted over a guardrail and then landed on its right side.

Neubert was immediately transported by ambulance to UPMC Hospital of Horizon Greenville. Due to serious injuries, he was pronounced dead after admittance.

Aside from Thomas who died; her passenger expired at the scene as announced by Mercer County Coroner’s Office.

According to Coroner’s office, Mary G. Carmody, age 44, resident of Sewickley was identified as the passenger who perished in the crash.

Due to the accident, a traffic mess went for miles as a stretch of the road; that authorities closed the lanes and the vehicles were detoured. The road was opened after10:00 o’clock that evening.

Authorities confirmed that three people died following a two car crash at the Interstate 79 in Mercer County.

The state Police of Pennsylvania stated that there were three fatalities: two women and one man. They died after their two vehicles collided that happened at about 6:00 o’clock that evening of Friday at the southern part of the Crawford County line.

Pennsylvania State Police recounted the cause of the mishap, A Challenger Dodge operated by Robert Neubert II, age 62 and residing in Amherst, NY veered off the southward lane Interstate 79 and entered the northward lane; then the vehicle hit a Chevy Cruze with Susan L. Thomas, age 54, resident of Sewickly, Pa. behind the wheel.

The violent collision caused the Chevy to vault over a guardrail as it landed on its side at a distance of 63 feet away from the road.

The double collision resulted to the death of both drivers while Mary Carmody, age 44 and resident of Sewickly, Pa, who was a passenger in the Cruze, also died in the crash.

The mishap caused northbound lanes, between route 358 and route 285, to be closed for over 3 and a half hours as traffic was backing up traffic for over four miles.
