Pittsburgh – It was a strange sight to see a car flipped into a fountain just inside the entrance of Highland Park in Pittsburgh. Fortunately, no one else was hurt including the driver.

Police stated that the Pittsburgh driver whose car crashed upside down in Pa. fountain remains conscious and stable. Witnesses were astounded when the car, apparently losing control was airlifted, flipped over and finally landed in an upside down position in a fountain.

The mishap took place on a Thursday at about 6:00 o’clock in the evening just before the Park Reservoir of Highland.

Authorities reported that the man also slammed a car that was parked a few blocks away and continued running blocks away as it was approaching the reservoir. The vehicle crossed the sidewalk then to a grassy area. It went between the two pillars and hit a sloping wall just located beside the reflecting pool of the fountain. Police said that the wall seemed to serve as a ramp that made the car flipped into the air; it was airlifted and landed on its roof at the center of the fountain.

The police were also bewildered and started their investigation for the cause. They believed that the driver must have suffered a medical emergency before the crash and lost control of his vehicle. He was taken to Presbyterian’s UPMC.

This incident was extraordinary that made the one of the policemen to comment that it was the first time he saw such a case in his 25 years in the force. A rampaging car flipped over, fell and landed on its roof in the fountain at the entrance to Highland Park on Thursday evening. The position the vehicle landed was so well-balanced on the fountain may have been what the reason that saved the driver’s life at it kept his head above the water.

The operator of the car was driving at top speed several blocks away where he also struck a park car. The car did not stop after striking the parked car but continued running towards the fountain. The wall near the fountain was like a ramp that raised the car as it landed into the fountain.

Several on-lookers came over to help. One was a medical assistant who helped kept the man conscious while a doctor held the head of the man above water to keep him drowning as the water continued running before the emergency crew arrived.

No one else was hurt and police said that even the first accident left no person injured. The car was stuck in the water that it took almost two hours to tow the vehicle out of the place.

Police are investigating the incident to determine which charges will be filed against the man who landed his car in the fountain.
