Bentleyville — A Washington County man hit a teener with his vehicle and then fled from the scene. He is now facing serious hit-and-run charges.

The suspect, identified as Andrew Tomazin, age 36 and resident of Washington is charged with (1) aggravated assault by vehicle; and (2) other related charges.

Thirteen-years-old Sierra Jackson was on her way to a friend’s house walking along the Main in Bentleyville when she noticed Tomazin inside his car at a grocery store parking lot talking in his phone.

She made eye contact with him as she started to cross the driveway. Suddenly, Tomazin pulled out and allegedly hit the girl. She was knocked down the road and sustained injuries in her back, ribs and spleen.

The man expressed apology to the girl and took off.

Short time later, Tomazin was later identified by Southwest Regional Police as  he was driving a van from his carpet cleaning company.

At first, Tomazin initially claimed to the police that he didn’t see the girl and did not admit he hit her. Later he admitted that he got scared and fled from the scene.

In reality, Tomazin feared because he was driving without a license due to a past case of DUI.

For his recklessness, Tomazin was filed numerous charges.

Andrew M.Tomazin, age 36, resident of No. 1355 at Park Ave., admitted to authorities that he was behind wheel of his vehicle when he pulled out of Jet’s Food Center parking lot at 506 Main St. He also admitted hitting the girl that afternoon of Aug. 14.

According to the criminal complaint, the young victim was transported to a local hospital and doctors diagnosed her with swollen ribs; and were referred to another surgeon due to her swelling spleen.

Police told Tomazin that it would help his case if he will go to Police Headquartes of Southwest Regional Police in Belle Vernon and speak to the ooficer in-charge of the investigation. Tomazin followed the police advice that same day.

Tomazin claimed that he was looking both ways when he got out of the parking lot and did not see anybody coming, so he pulled his vehicle out to Main Street when he hit the young girl.

He told the police in a written statement, that he after the crash, she asked the girl if she was OK and saw her walking toward Jet’s Food Center. He told police that he fled from the scene because he was scared.

Tomazin is now facing so many charges: (1) aggravated assault by vehicle; (2) accidents involving death/injury; (3) accident/serious bodily injury or death; (4) accident involving death/injury; (5) not properly licensed; (6) reckless driving; (7) careless driving; and (7) driving while operating privilege suspended or revoked.

Although charges were already filed at Magisterial District Judge Curtis Thompson office in Ellsworth office, a date for the preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
