An Armstrong County man died last Saturday following the wreck of the four-wheeler he was operating. The man who died following an ATV accident last Saturday in the Township of North Buffalo was from Franklin.

The man was identified by the Coroner’s Office of Armstrong County as Jason David Toy, age 39, and resident of Claypoole Road. Deputy Coroner Brian K. Myers pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to State police Trooper Eric Maurer, Toy and another man were operating separate quads around 5:40 o’clock in the afternoon when for unknown reasons, Toy lost control of his vehicle and swerved off Church Rd. and crashed into a tree.

Maurer believed was that alcohol was the main factor in the crash. Toy and the other man were not wearing a helmet.

State Police identified the other man as Sidney Ford, age 47, and resident of Cadogan, who was arrested at the scene. According to state police Cpl. Chris Robbins, Ford who appeared to be highly intoxicated will be charged with driving under the influence and for illegally driving an ATV on a state road. He sustained no injury.

The accident happened along a slight bend at the vicinity of a line of trees beside MDS Energy site just north of Route 28. Cadogan Slate Lick Rd. was the direction both men were going toward when the mishap happened.

Myers said that Toy’s body will not be autopsied as they already ruled that the cause of the death was blunt force chest & head trauma and the manner of death is accidental.

According to Ford, Toy was riding ahead of him and later got lost from his sight. As he rounded the bend, he saw Toy lying near the side of the road.

The accident happened along Kittanning when Toy was driving his ATV when for unknown reasons; he lost control while traveling along Church Rd. in the Twp. of North Buffalo.

Kittanning State police said that due to the impact, Toy was ejected from the ATV and he slammed on a tree. Police learned that he was not wearing any helmet.

The tragic event occurred at about 5:30 o’clock in the afternoon.

Police have charged Ford with driving under the influence and illegally operating an ATV on a state road.

The accident occurred on a slight bend near a line of trees next to the MDS Energy site north of Route 28. Blunt force trauma to the head and chest was pointed as the cause of death. Myers said that authorities considered manner of death as accidental.

Ford told the police that the last time he saw Toy alive was while he was riding ahead of him and got out of sight. He said he rounded the bend and saw Toy lying near the side of the road.
