Smith Township – Saturday morning in Washington County started with an accident that killed two men and injured two others. This was the result of a vehicle that crashed and flipped several times.

The mishap took place at about 1:45 o’clock in the morning. Four men were going along the Road of Joffre Bulger in the Township of Smith.

According to the Police, the men were traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control as the vehicle reached a bend and swerved off toward the side of the road. The car then was running across some gravel when the driver attempted to correct the car. Instead the vehicle flipped as much as six times.

Chief Brandon Kriznik, of the Fire Department of Smith Township, said that the driver tried bringing the car back onto the road but it was overcorrected. Instead it

Paul Kinder who was a resident in the neighborhood said that he rushed to the crash site from his home just a few seconds after he heard one explosive crash following one another as the car was rolling over.

Kinder said that after the vehicle failed to negotiate a turn and lost control, it caught traction and the sound of the vehicle rolling down the road was audible.

Both passengers Joe Bowland and Michael Gregg, ages 19, died from their injuries sustained in the crash.

Kinder who were friends with Gregg and Bowland tried to help both. Kinder said that both victims were lying on the ground and were breathing. One of the victims was bleeding and choking on his own blood. Kinder turned him over to the side a little bit where so he would not suffocate to death from his blood. The other victim was just lying flat on his back.

Police learned that three of the four people inside the vehicle were ejected.

After the car finally ceased moving, it was facing the opposite direction near a culvert.

Jordan Jacobsen who was the driver and the 4th passenger Ben Bowman sustained major injuries but medical staff said they will survive.

Friends of the victims started coming to the crash site to show their concern. This stretch in the Joffre Bulger Road has been the scene of several fatal accidents.

Chief Kriznik recalled that last year there was another fatal accident in the same area in which three people died. The place is a a winding road and just like other roads in the County, drivers must be careful and watch their speed.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to get at the bottom of the crash. They wanted to determine the factor causing the crash. It the driver was high in alcohol or drugs which could be determined by a BAC test. Probably the cause was the geography of the place. After the investigation, charges will be filed against the person responsible for the deaths and injuries.
