It was an early Tuesday morning three days ago when a Baltimore man, age 38, was found by a passer-by in the wooded area of SE Omar Rd. The victim was biking going east on the improved shoulder West Rd. Sometimes before 6:40 o’clock that morning, he was hit from behind by the side mirror of an unknown vehicle and ejected from his bike, falling into the road.

The police said that the unidentified vehicle did not stop but fled from the scene.

Officer Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier of Del State Police Public Information, stated that in this case, the police is just relying on help of the public to help them identify the driver.

He said that there is a great possibility that word gets around to the hit-and-run driver. Some people passing through woods would think that they hit a deer or a forest animal so they will not bother to stop. Since the wood is quite dark early in the morning, it might have happened that way. However, police confirmed thqt the bicycle had a flashing light at the back as required by Del law.

Fournier added that in several instances, a driver who hits something will likely discuss it with somebody else or go to a shop to have the vehicle fixed, The police can make their search into area body shops, in case the driver took the vehicle to be fixed.

The victim was airlifted by ambulance helicopter to Medical Center of Christiana where he was listed under fair condition.

Fournier said that the police is now searching for the driver and will interview the victim who might be able to supply more details once he is released from the hospital. They are hoping to find at least some clues as there were surveillance cameras in the woods.

They will be asking from the victim the exact time of the incident or if it was still dark on that part of the wood. It was about 6:40 o’clock that morning when the by-stander came upon the victim but the mishap could have happen much earlier. They will rely on the victim’s information as to the color of the car or any other description he could supply.

The victim is able to talk and have given them some info but investigators would want to interview him some more especially after he is out of the hospital.

At the time of the accident, the biker was wearing a helmet.

The police is requesting witnesses with information relating to the incident to contact the police. Their information will go a long way in the solution of the case. Drivers must be more responsible and careful so they do not hurt people along the way. They can never tell if in the future, they will be the victim or even their loved ones.
