Pittsburgh – Port Authority stated that although bus carried no passengers and the operator survived, but they are still filing charges against the second bus driver involved in the violent crash.

The D.A. Stephen Zappala believed that driver was reckless and the crash site is a crime scene. Charges are made after one Port Authority bus went flying off the Parkway North. And his claim was substantiated by the video camera installed in one of the buses.

A month ago, two vehicles were traveling south towards the same direction along the parkway when one truck slammed on the other that propelled it down a hillside and injuring the driver.

Zappala said that the tape clearly showed that both operators were over-speeding. One of the busses was going 60s, when it was overtaken by the other bus; the speed limit on the parkway is 55 miles per hour. The video showed that the two drivers were making dirty signs toward each other and their behavior was unprofessional. It appeared that they were racing.

Whether they were racing or not, Zappala will file criminal charges against the drivers.

Legal counsel for both parties claimed that it might be due to mechanical trouble.

Juliann Maier was the bus driver that crashed and she is still in the hospital recuperating from her injuries.

The operator of the Port Authority bus left the scene of the crash; and authorities later discovered that in 2011, he was charged in O’Hara for driving his bus away after hitting another car in O’Hara; however, the charge was later dropped as the accuser did not show up for a preliminary hearing.

Thomas Frauens, age 56, resident of Brookline, was charged by authority police for hit-and run as careless driving. Based on criminal complaint, the bus hit the woman’s vehicle at Alpha Drive and Freeport Rd. The woman told the police that she approached the bus operator so they could exchange information. Then bus pulled away without reporting the accident or exchanging information as required in the vehicle code.

His lawyer claimed his client had nothing to do with the accident for it was Juliann Maier of Ross, the other bus driver that swerved from the highway and propelled down the steep hillside and stopped on its side along Evergreen Rd. But authority said that both operators were running at top were speeding and making dirty signs and gestures to each other, prior to the crash. A surveillance video showed that after the crash, the male operator in the wreck went down from his bus for a while then climbed and fled away, and that he never reported the incident to the authorities.

As investigation is continuing, both drivers are f acing possible termination; now they are both on paid leave as no charges have been filed.
